Farmyard Finger Puppets

This pattern uses single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet. No attempt is made to explain how to do these stitches as it is assumed the crafter is experienced. However, should you need help there are many sites on the web with detailed stitch instructions.

Materials:
      Crochet hook size G
      Small amount stuffing
      Scraps of worsted weight yarn in appropriate colors.

Abbreviations:
      Ch = chain
      Dc = double crochet
      Hdc = half double crochet
      Sc = single crochet
      St/s = stitch/es
      Tog = together

General Instructions:

Directions will not indicate the color of yarn used as that is up to the crafter. Using different yarns will mean some puppets will be somewhat smaller than others but all should fit an adult finger as well as that of a child.

Eyes: Eyes are made the same for each puppet. Cut a strand of yarn about 8 inches long. Begin to tie a knot in the center of yarn. Do not pull tight. Put yarn end through circle a second and third time. Now pull ends gently until you have a knot in the center of the strand. To attach to puppet, put one yarn end through to inside at the selected position for eye. Put the other end through to inside one stitch down from first end. (If you put them both through the same hole the knot will pull through to inside when you tie off.) Turn puppet inside out and tie yarn in a secure knot and trim.

Note: All pieces are finished off on the inside of puppet. This requires turning the puppet inside out. To avoid doing this over and over, it is suggested you just put ends through to inside and leave them dangling. Then you can turn puppet and ties off several pieces at one time.
