Name: Amanda Subject: Good way to relax Comment: I learned to crochet when I was six (my older sister is a wonderful needlewoman and I learned from her) and have tinkered with it on and off for years. I took it up again seriously a few years ago as a way to relax after a long day at work and school. Recently I've been working on crochet garments from sewing patterns (this allows me to vary stitches and yarns without straining my brain on conversions, and it's guaranteed to fit so long as I crochet to the exact size of the pattern pieces.) The only bad thing about it is that, even exercising restraint, my yarn stash seems to be creeping into the living room. Does anyone else's husband have apoplexy whenever he finds a new ball of yarn? :) Name: Jennifer Subject: Addicting! Comment: I learned how to crochet only four months ago, and I'm hooked! Growing up, my Nana was always crocheting and knitting, and she is my teacher and my inspiration. I learned how to knit years ago, and while my Nana showed me over and over how to crochet, it never made sense to me. Well, one night I had just finished knitting a scarf, and I thought I'd try crocheting again. I looked at the directions for the millionth time, and somehow they made sense! I've been crocheting ever since. I crochet while watching TV, on the bus, during staff meetings, anywhere! This website offers many great patterns and I get a lot of inspiration from looking at all the different things people have made. Now I'm about to open my own online store where I sell my hand-designed, handmade crocheted hats. Crocheting is so much fun! Name: Mary Subject: Crochet Comment: I was always excited each year at Christmas because I knew my Grandmother would give me one of her crochet works of art. She was the one who inspired me to crochet. I learned from her and some of my work friends during our breaks.I will never forget the crocheted collars that Grandmother made that were popular in the "50's. Now as a mother and grandmother, I have 3 children, 11 grandchildren and have made all of them an afghan for their birthdays. It took me a year to do it but it was so much fun and so relaxing. Thank goodness, their birthdays are spread thoughout the year. The enjoyment you get when you give your handiwork away can only be expressed when you see the gratefulness in their eyes. My crochet bag goes with me everywhere. Thank you for this website. It is great! I am still exploring. Name: Theresa D Subject: Crocheting Comment: I made rent money while in collge crocheting fraternity hats and scarves. People love personal items. Some of you collge students have a gold mine. Dig In. Name: Bryan Subject: Not just for women Comment: I started crocheting about a year ago and i think its so awesome. its fast and easy to catch on to and ITS NOT JUST FOR WOMEN! ive never met another guy who crochets but its a fun hobby and it makes all kinds of neat stuff with just a hook and some yarn! Name: Hannah Subject: crochet is cool!!! Comment: I used to think I was the only one that liked to crochet, besides older ladies, but I guess I was wrong. (I'm glad I was wrong) So any girls out there who think it's not cool to crochet, you're wrong!!! Just try it and you'll love it!!! Lot's of my friends think it's cool!!!(including some boys)((ha,ha,ha)) Just give it a chance!!!!! I am one of the homeschooled, crocheting, Hannahs that has wrote before. (I guess most homescooled Hannah's like to crochet.)((It seems that way!!)) Bye!!!! Name: Sarah Subject: Addiction Comment: I learned to crochet when I was 11 years old, and have finally gotten back to it 20 years later. I really appriciate sites like yours to refresh my memory. Comment: I have been an Australian crochet nut for two years now - ever since I was taught by a workmate when I was looking for something to help pass the time whilst on watch. This year I was talked in to entering some shows - and I am flabbergasted to have won the novice section at the Canberra Royal and a highly commended in the Sydney Royal today. The pattern I used for the Canberra Royal was one I learnt from here and modified just slightly! May crochet live forever!!! Name: Jennifer Subject: avid crocheter Comment: I see that crochet has really never lost its popularity. As a little girl I always watched my grandmother and loved all the things she made for. She is her late 80's and doesn't crochet as much as she once did. I always let her know that I appreciate that she took the time to teach me. I have a daughter who I give mini lessons to whenever she shows an interest in a project. I love to crochet and do such a variety of projects. I can't imagine what I would do with out such a creative hobby. This site is so great. I get inspired by patterns and it is so much fun to put your own twist on a pattern. Before you know it there are times when you realize you have created your own pattern. Name: Debi Subject: Afgans Comment: I learned to crochet Years ago but only finished one afgan .But Im almost 45 and started again and I made 5 full size afgans from Sept. until christmas and I just love it I have just started a new one I love to crochet now. Name: Luthien (again) Subject: !!!!!!! Comment: I noticed the two homeschooled Hannahs in this section who say they love to crochet. I'd like to add another. :) My cousin Hannah just turned 14, she's homeschooled, and she loves to crochet too. I just thought that was neat :) Name: Luthien (Rebecca) Subject: Afghans Comment: Hi y'all! I'm 16 and I've been crocheting for probably eight years now. I made my Aunt Georgia, who died of cancer last month, a blue and pink afghan for her birthday, just a few weeks before she passed away. She was so grateful that I made her that; she really appreciated it. I am so glad I was able to be a blessing to her, and I just wanted to encourage all the young crocheters (and older ones too!) to make things for elderly relatives and friends. They will appreciate it. I'm glad I got to do it for my aunt. Name: Mary Ellen Subject: Pineapples! Comment: I taught myself to crochet when I was 18 years old. I made a few doilies but became frustrated trying to crochet pineapples. So I stopped crocheting. This past summer, at the age of 52, I took up crocheting again. I challenged myself to do pineapples. All of a sudden they are really easy to do and loads of fun! I can't seem to crochet enough pineapple doilies, tablecloths, afghans, etc! I do other patterns, but pineapples are the best! Your site has lots of neat patterns. Thank you! Name: Summer Subject: It Doesn't Make Sense! Comment: Sometimes I come to particular part in a pattern that just doesn't make sense at all. It's not symmetrical, doesn't fit with the other part...whatever. When that happens, just follow the pattern directions EXACTLY and usually it will work in the end. If not, improvise! It's your piece and you can do as you please with it.
